where the music industry has had to turn to make profit

Over the years music has changed so muc due to a variety of things. The main rason the music industry had to change was due to the high amount of piracy that came about in the late 90's. The firs ever peer to peer website was Napster. Napster was created by Peter Sundae and he believed that music should be free and that musicians should find new and more effective ways of making money. Music industries had nothing they could do because they were not reproducing the music they were just distributing it for free. The peer-peer websited Napster took ages to shut down because the servers in Finland and Sweeden were being moved about all the time to keep the piracy going.

After napster came Limewire and many other piracy websites. The music wasnt selling in the shops because the new generations just rejected the idea of paying for something they could obtain for free. Musicians decided they needed to take action. Music had now started to take a much bigger profit from hardware and fashionable music devices like the ipod and headphones Beats.

Dre and Gaga

Katy Perry-

To try and make more money for herself she made her album Teenage Dream literally smell like candyfloss. This was what papers described as a desperate attempt to try and make money for her and her music company.

Apps and how apple makes more money from them now then from music downloads

Apple used to make all of its money from music downloads and apple are hated by music companies because they use their music and distribute them but apple doesn't pump money back into the music industry itself. Apple now make more money from apps. Apple gets 34 million apps downloaded daily in comparison to 8.3 million songs, this is all due to the amount of piracy since the 90's people now dont believe music should be payed for.
