Today we were introduced to Digipaks which is a modern approach to CD/DVD packaging. It adds value towards the artist and includes information of the band/artist in the form of a small booklet that is inserted into a small pocket in the digipak. They usually contain graphic images that run across 4 to 6 panels that fold outwards. Some digipaks allow the possibility of including more than one disc that involve features that accompany the single or album.
Digipaks usually include:
- Name of Band (large and legible)
- Name of Album
- Track listings for the album (same font)
- Production information, including copyright and company details (logo, promotional sticker)
- A few thank you's
- Collage of photographs of the band/artist during the filming of a video or rehearsal for a tour (3-4 colours max)
- Snippets of lyrics from the songs
- Behind the scenes information on the making of the album
Digipaks are essential for artists/bands. Not only does it generate revenue but it is a way for their fans to feel connected to the artist as it is extra personal. It is an artist's way of letting the consumer know they are still available within the music industry.
