Pitch Simulation Activity - Pitching for a video contract

In today's lesson, we were put in groups of four and were given the task of pitching for a video contract. We were given the lyrics to a song and a chance to listen to it once thus preparing a pitch.

Below are the lyrics we were given:

We are young, we run free, keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright

We wake up, we go out, smoke a fag, put it out,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright

Are we like you, I can't be sure?
Of the scene, as she turns
We are strange in our worlds

But we are young, we get by, can't go mad, ain't got time,
Sleep around, if we like but we're alright

Got some cash, bought some wheels, took it out, 'cross the fields
Lost control, hit a wall, but we're alright

Are we like you, I can't be sure?
Of the scene, as she turns
We are strange in our worlds

But we are young, we run free, keep our teeth, nice and clean

See our friends, see the sights, feel alright

Are we like you, I can't be sure?
Of the scene, as she turns

We are strange in our world

But we are young, we run free, keep our teeth, nice and clean

See our friends, see the sights, feel alright.

Initially, when I had read through the lyrics I had immediately thought of young kids enjoying themselves, maybe having fun at a party. I'd also thought the genre of this song was Pop.

However, after listening to the song I'd thought the genre was most probably Indie and ideas were coming to mind regarding the location, performers such as a group of boys on the beach, traveling around London etc. I feel Goodwin's idea of Amplification would be suitable for this song and lyric.

The pitch:

A group of young lads hit the town, see the sights London has to offer and 'feel alright'. We're going to use Goodwin's idea of amplification because the lyrics are very visual, they're about having fun and it would be good to capture it. Also, the artist wants to create his own image as a 'fun' person with other people aswell. We are going to target our audience at boys particulary 16-20's who love indie music and also young mischievous boys who love adventures would be able to relate. Ideally, in terms of location we would want to set it in London streets and use iconic props like taxis, red buses etc. The image of our artist would be like a one man band but the focus will be on the singer himself.

Below are the first 12 shots of the video:

I really enjoyed this activity, it has given me an insight to how it will be when it comes to making our music video in terms of planning and pitching.
