Carol Vernallis

Vernallis observed that edits in music videos come much more frequent than in films, they have edits which are on a rhythmic basis closely connected to the song.
She also says:
  • Match-cuts in music videos are broken-this is done in order to draw attention to what is on the screen
  • Edits are at times obvious to draw attention to themselves. e.g. wipes, fade outs-ins, other special effects.
  • Lots of jump cuts are used
  • Slow motions are used
  • Base track (master shot) which is used to give the video a structure.
