3 music videos that have influenced our planning

Rude Boy - Rihanna

We looked at this video because we liked the styling and the use of colour. There are lots of use of bright, primary colours and tribal prints and that's what we want to incorporate into our video. The entire video was filmed in front of a green screen (which is something that we were thinking of using) and I liked the way in which the video had a very pop-art, stylized feel.It used lots of obvious edits, cutting to the beats and quick jump cuts between long shots and extreme close ups. The video incorporated lots of West Indian themes that could be heard in the music and I liked this because it was an extension to the representation of who Rihanna is (she was born in Barbados).

Wings - Little Mix

I found inspiration from the Wings video, again, from the styling - lots of bright, attention-catching colours with tribal print and studding. I also, however, liked the backgrounds that they used and the way in which it was relevent to each member of the band (for example, the 'girly' one had a pink background with flowers, the 'urban' one had a graffiti wall). I liked the use of editing, the split screen between each of the girls and the quick cuts to the clapping beat. The video is also all shot in a studio and so I think it would be easily imitable.

Run The World (Girls) - Beyonce

Inspired by Muvley's ideas about the representation of women, we wanted to incorporate ideas of female empowerment into our video. Beyonce's video for Run The World does this; she shows strong, independent women that still look good. Similiarly to the Rihanna video, this is also an extension to the image that Beyonce tried to portray of herself and I think we should try portray our artist in the way. Also, I like the symbolic imagery used in this video - the lion, flags, army clothing - all of it represents strength and I think we should try and add some symbolic imagery into our video as well.
